Denio Lourenco is a Toronto-based freelance journalist whose storytelling extends across a wide range of topics and platforms. 

 

In 2020, he joined the national digital team at CTV News, Canada’s most-watched news organization, where he currently works as a writer and digital content editor.

In this role, Denio has covered major events, like the insurrection at the U.S. capitol, federal elections, natural disasters and mass shootings. He’s also a contributor for Xtra Magazine, where he writes compelling stories about LGBTQ2S+ issues, politics and current affairs. 

 

Denio’s academic background includes a master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, which he completed in 2018. He also studied political science and gender studies at the University of Toronto.

 

Before his role at CTV News, Denio honed his skills as an associate video editor at HuffPost Canada. He was also an associate producer on the critically acclaimed documentary series The Big Sex Talk which premiered on CBC Gem in 2022.

 

Throughout his career, Denio has held various positions in television, podcasting and digital news. His work has appeared in small-town papers and national news outlets, like The Globe and Mail, Vice and NBC News.

 

In 2021, his in-depth investigation into the mistreatment of transgender people in the Canadian prison system earned him recognition as a finalist at the Digital Publishing Awards. His impactful reporting was later adapted into a documentary for OutTV called, Surviving The Block.
