ABOUT

Denio Lourenco is a Toronto-based freelance journalist whose storytelling extends across a wide range of topics and platforms. 

 

He has covered major breaking news events, like the insurrection at the U.S. capitol, federal elections, natural disasters and mass shootings, but he specializes in stories about LGBTQ2S+ issues, politics and current affairs. 

Throughout his career, Denio has held various positions in television, podcasting and digital news. His work has appeared in small-town papers and national news outlets, like The Globe and Mail, Vice and NBC News.

Investigations

Film & TV 

I was as an associate producer on the critically acclaimed documentary explainer series The Big Sex Talk, which premiered on CBC Gem in 2022.

In 2021, my investigation into the mistreatment of transgender people in the Canadian prison system was a finalist at the Digital Publishing Awards. My reporting was later adapted into a documentary for OutTV called, Surviving The Block.

Podcasting

I was an associate producer on the final season of CBC's Chosen Family, a podcast hosted by queer, cosmically-destined BFFs Thomas Leblanc and Tranna Wintour.

 

The Montreal comedians have deep and spontaneous conversations with renowned artists and and up-and-coming creators.

In 2018, I started working as a social media producer for the Making Gay History podcast, where I helped bring Eric Marcus' 30-year-old audio archives to life by creating sharable content for multiple platforms.

In 2019, I worked at HuffPost Canada as an associate video editor, where I created short informative videos for multiple platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

I created daily short-form video content on a range of topics from lighthearted viral trends to politics and breaking news.
